Digital Authentication

eIDAS Authentication Now Available for Key Procedures for EU Citizens

As of October 2, 2024, eIDAS authentication is operational on the Spanish Tax Agency’s electronic headquarters, allowing EU citizens to access key tax procedures, such as filing income tax returns (IRPF / IRNR) or the main VAT forms, using their national electronic identification.

Obtaining an FNMT Electronic Certificate through In-Person Verification

The electronic certificate is a digital signature installed in the browser to verify your identity online, allowing you to perform transactions from a computer, mobile device, or tablet on our electronic headquarters and other organizations that also accept it. In the case of the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre (FNMT), for which the Spanish Tax Agency serves as a verification office, when you access a procedure requiring an electronic certificate, a window will appear on the screen to choose the appropriate certificate and continue with the process.

The request and acquisition of a valid electronic certificate for tax purposes are carried out through the websites of the certificate-issuing entities.

Main Options for Electronic Identification

  • Certificate and electronic ID The electronic certificate is a digital signature installed on your browser to verify your identity online. The electronic DNI also allows you to identify yourself to carry out procedures online.
  • Mobile Key Cl@ve Móvil is the new electronic access system to public services that allows citizens to authenticate themselves in the procedure they are carrying out in the Electronic Office. The system offers the novelty of allowing users to scan a QR code, which prevents the user from having to enter their identification data on the access screen. If you cannot scan the QR code, you can confirm the authentication request that will be sent to the Cl@ve APP.
  • Access for EU citizens (eIDAS) EU Citizen Authentication System (eIDAS) is the authentication system implemented under the eIDAS Regulation, which allows citizens of an EU country to use the identification and authentication mechanisms provided by another EU country, to access public services in other Member States. eIDAS facilitates access to public administration services in a secure and efficient manner, and is an important step towards digital integration in Europe.

What is a CSV

The Secure Verification Code (CSV) is printed in the footer of the first page of each document. This code ensures the integrity of the document by verifying it through the Spanish Tax Agency’s electronic headquarters.

All documents and certificates issued by the Tax Agency, regardless of the method of request, will include a verification code so that the recipient can verify their authenticity and validity on the website. Therefore, the Secure Verification Code allows for the verification of the integrity of the copy of this electronic document.
